On Hammond's Lake Michigan Shoreline

These beautiful scenes above were taken from the vistas that over look Lake Michigan. This hidden gem is sandwiched between industrial and commercial sites and is well worth a visit. Located in the city's most northwestern quadrant, buffering the lakeshore and the Illinois stateline. Lakefront Park is the most recent addition to the city's ever expanding list of park properties.

The park is also home to a Migratory Bird Sanctuary, which is quite a popular spot for bird watching during the spring and fall months. Park features include a bathing beach, nature trails - both paved and unpaved, gazebo, a bath house with lifeguard station and a boardwalk trail along the lakefront is also planned for the future.

Lakefront Park contains a total of 16.5 acres, of which 9.5 acres are reserved for the migratory bird sanctuary. The park was officially dedicated to the public on July 15th, 1999. A beach stretches all the way from the Indiana-Illinois stateline on the west to the Hammond Marina on the east. Here at the shoreline one is awarded sweeping views of Lake Michigan and the skylines of neighboring cities from this vantage point.
