The above street name change listing was gathered and compiled using old city maps, old city directories and old city documents.
An ordinance providing for the renaming of certain streets in the city of Hammond, Indiana, that for the purposes of providing the City of Hammond, Indiana, a more adequate and suitable numbering and designation of streets and avenues, in connection with City Ordinance #2187, which will provide a more uniform system of house numbering.
Also noted in City Ordinance #2201 - ALL EAST & WEST streets, avenues and highways will bear the designation of STREET. And ALL NORTH & SOUTH streets, avenues and highways will bear the designation of AVENUE. Except in the case of existing boulevards, parkways, courts and otherwise, it shall continue to be so designated unless specifically changed by this Ordinance.

It should also be noted that 1930 was a year of change, especially if you were a street in the city of Hammond, IN. Eighty-eight city streets were renamed or changed in this above manner.
Other original city streets were changed around the time the city was first founded by another City Ordinance dated 1892.
