
| Formed in the year of 1904 by J. W. Beckman. The Beckman Supply Company helped to supply Hammond and the Calumet Region with building supplies and fuels and was one of the earlier businesses in the city. Beckman Supply furnished much of the raw materials which into the construction of many of the industrial and commercial buildings in the city and surrounding area. The company had a yard and offices located at 527 Michigan Street (near Sohl Avenue), just north of the downtown district. Noted as a leader in its field of business. The firm was the first in this part of the country to use silos for storing stone and related materials. Many other firsts in the building materials supply industry were developed and instituted by the Hammond company. Beckman Supply was dedicated in serving their customers and always put them first. |
