Above is a recreation of an advertisement that appeared in a local newspaper. The ad shows the services offered by Dr. Stonebreaker, veterinarian, also a Hammond resident. During this era the primary mode of transportation was still the horse and buggy, automobiles or horseless carriages were just begining to make their presence. The livery or stables would later become garages and service stations as the horse and buggy began to fade away. The need for veterinarians services would be relegated to the family pets. The need to take care of the family's mode of transport would be fulfilled by the auto mechanic.
