Photo Left - Kindel's Place, also known as "The Lake George Picnic Grove" at Kindel's Grove image taken around 1908. Photo Right - On the water at Lake George, this image was taken around 1909.

During the first decade of the twentieth century -- this looked like it was quite a popular hangout for many area residents, judging by the number of people in these photographs. The storefront in the photo above, served as a haven for the many picnickers who visited the adjacent "Lake George Picnic Grove". Most arrived by auto or on the streetcar line, which passed directly in front of this establishment. This area is now currently in the general vicinity of Sheffield and Hohman Avenues.

The second image shown here was taken on "Lake George", where several boats sit docked at the shoreline, filled to the gills, waiting to depart out onto the lake, as they pose for the photographer, or perhaps they're just returning from an outing on the lake. Earlier Lake George was much larger in size then it currently is. It was drained to make way for a more valuable land surface as Calumet Avenue stretched its way northward towards the lakefront.

Lake George's recreational assets, later in time were sacrificed for industrial use. Thus turning this once pristine land into an urban brownfield Abandoned industrial property, usually environmentally scared, an urban wasteland. Presently this area is now being reclaimed and restored as a municipal youth golf course, opening sometime near the turn of the next century.
