Huehn Family Motorcar -- Here's a snapshot of the Huehn family taken in front of their Logan Street residence sometime around 1907 to 1908, as they prepare to take a jaunt around town. Across the street in the background would be the Michigan Central railroad tracks now the IHB/Conrail tracks, and beyond that is Plummer Street now called Willow Court. This neighborhood was one of the more affluent areas in the city's earlier days. Located just east of Hohman Avenue, one of Hammond's principal main thoroughfares.
Around this time frame automobiles were quite an uncommon site, because of their newness and cost, however the Huehn's were a prominent business family and could well afford this type of luxury. They were the proprietors of the Huehn Opera House a type of entertainment center as they were called in this era and a hotel, located just down the block from their home at the corner of Hohman Avenue and Logan Street.
