Here's a collection of photographs showing the construction and the finished Hammond High School or The Hammond Industrial High School as it was originally known. The top picture is a snapshot of the bricklayers and hod carriers - - is one who carries bricks, usually in a trough rested on the shoulder, posing for a brief moment as they work on finishing the school. The structure was completed in 1916.
Located at 5926 Calumet Avenue, the architectural design is of the Neoclassical style. The bottom photo shows us the finished building, from across the way sometime during the early half of the 1920's. The school suffered from a fire in the late 1960's, and has since been rebuilt and expanded. Visit the school's home page.
