Forest Southview from above in 1926 - - here's a look from up high above the ever expanding city of Hammond. This is a birds eye view of an easy recognizable landmark. The winding roadway seen here is the 6500 and 6600 block of Forest Avenue, in the exclusive new subdivision of Forest Southview. The road is in stark contrast to the normal grid pattern of streets usually laid out by developers. At this moment in time quite a few empty lots were still available for the development of many elegant residences, which the area is home to, while many of the homes in the foreground are under construction.

The street to the left of the photo is Stateline Avenue, and the main street to the right of the picture is Hohman Avenue. The main cross street near the center of this photograph is 165th Street, back then was known as Standard Avenue. At the northeast corner of the intersection of Hohman & 165th is the Oak Hill Cemetery, and directly across to the west is Kenwood School. Back then notice that the school was just a small wooden structure. Towards the top right hand side the large building would be the Strabe Piano Company. Now take a look at the area as it looks today - - See the Forest Southview Historical District.
