Showing the downtown in it's heydays. This photograph was taken from the clock tower of the old Lake County Superior Courthouse Building, which was located then at the southwest corner of Hohman Avenue and Rimbach Street. Recognize any of the buildings? On the Left - - east side of Hohman Avenue is the NIPSCO building and the Yale building now the NIPSCO Annex. Further down is the old Paramount Theatre now the site of the new Federal Courthouse building. To the right - - west side of Hohman Avenue, the tall buildings are the La Salle Hotel and behind it is the steeple of Saint Joseph Church.

Note the brick paved roadway and street car tracks, which run down the middle of the road. How about all of those cars parked at the curb. Back then all of the cars were black and looked mostly the same. And you thought you had a hard time finding your car in the parking lot of the mall now a days. See how the street lights of today look similar to the ones of this era. Seems like history is trying to repeat its self. Who knows maybe the downtown of tomorrow may return back to the hustle and bustle of yesteryear.
