Originally known as the Kenwood Subdivision - - - This area of the city began to develop in the 1920's as illustrated by the above photographs. Many prominent Hammond businessmen and professionals built lavish residences here. During this time frame 165th Street was known as Standard Avenue --- named for the Standard Rail Car Company, which was located due east on this street.
